About

My story:

I was born and raised in White Rock B.C. After moving to Victoria for University, followed by a few years travelling and working abroad, I now reside, work and play in Kitsilano/Vancouver, the traditional territories of the Coast Salish Indigenous Peoples. It is here in Vancouver that I have found happiness living near the beach and the mountains and close to my family and friends.
I am very active and enjoy playing tennis, squash, beach volleyball, running, swimming, skiing, snowboarding and practicing yoga regularly. I love to travel, cook, drink wine, listen to good music, garden, walk my dog Gigi, and have fun and laugh.
I am extremely passionate about helping others and myself find meaningful work and volunteer opportunities, and work life balance, which enables me to participate in all of the above activities and live my best life.
With and undergraduate in Leisure and Recreation and an MBA, my academic credentials are quite unique. Reflecting on this, I am not surprised as these two fields define my behaviors and how I live. I am extremely organized and accountable yet fuelled by recreation, fun and excitement! The business side of me is an ambitious leader, hardworking and very efficient, and my recreation side strives for work life balance and finding joy in life.
The personal strategic planning activity (my offer) is a combination of a business accountability model with a values-based goal setting practice which beautifully combine to create a genuine and thoughtful, efficient and effective tool to help you identify and reach your goals while being true to your values and self.

Summary of Professional Experiences:
I am currently the Chair of the Recreation Studies Department at Langara College and I’ve taught full time in the School of Management’s Marketing Management and Business and International Business BBA programs, and the Recreation Leadership Diploma and Bachelor of Recreation Management programs for ten years and counting. I teach courses in Special Events Management, Wellness, Career and Life Planning and Portfolio Development, Organizational Behaviour and Business in Canada.
In addition to teaching and administrating, I spend a substantial amount of time advising, coaching and mentoring students. It is this activity that gives me the most joy in my work!
Prior to working at Langara, I was a private club manager at the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club. Here I was responsible for all recreational and competitive sports programming and staffing and managing a wide-range of social and business events including designing, coordinating, and marketing programs, conferences, AGM’s, large theme parties and numerous special events for adults and children.
Over the past 20 years my sports management repertoire includes design and marketing substantial aquatics and fitness programs, Provincial, National and International level tennis, badminton and squash tournaments, Provincial, National, World Cup and World Championship ski and snowboard events, and I was the Chief of Snowboard Athlete Compound for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
My not-for-profit Board of Directors involvement includes Canada Snowboard, BC Snowboard Association, ProMotion Plus/ Sport BC (gender equity and recognition for women and girls in sport), and Up in the Air Theatre. My focus in these roles is mentorship, strategic planning, organizational development, governance and marketing and communications.
As an educator and lifelong learner, I take part in numerous personal and professional development certifications and courses; intercultural education, indigenization, decolonization, gender equity and inclusion, online teaching and learning, and mental health and wellness to name a few.

My portfolio:

“All in one Package” is the phrase that comes to mind when I think of Erin. Erin and I met back in 2015 when I took Erin’s Special Events Planning and Marketing class at Langara College. This class and Erin’s unique approach to teaching proved to be life-changing for me as they offered a hands-on opportunity to explore social media and content creation which inspired me to turn both into a full-time career. Erin profoundly impacted my life once again when she became my mentor after I joined the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade’s Leaders of Tomorrow premier program in September 2017. Erin was committed to my growth and development since day one while initiating many great ideas which I later turned into actions – such as staying with my family business and taking the reins as Marketing Director or enrolling into an MBA program with HEC Paris. Erin's resourcefulness, knowledge, compassion, leadership, diligence, energy and sense of humour even during turbulent times made working with her a pure joy. As a teacher, coach, leader and a friend, Erin has my utmost respect as well as my highest recommendation.

I was fortunate to be taught by Erin in the Bachelor of Recreation Management program at Langara College over four years and can attest that Erin's leadership and mentorship goes much further than in the classroom setting. Erin spent many hours and devoted much effort in supporting and mentoring me towards achieving my goals, connecting me with her network and providing suggestion on possible career pathways. Likewise In the classroom setting, she is always quick to support students in understanding concepts all the while trying her best to make the education process as engaging and relatable as possible.

As a strong and intelligent women who is constantly achieving new professional heights, she continues to be a great inspiration and role-model for me and many others.
