Almost made it as a professional athlete. Then I took steroids and ruined my career.
Then I became the guy who would shoot 4 shots of vodka followed by a shot of espresso when I worked in the hospitality industry. The hospitality industry is like no other industry in that it is built around drinking. Thankfully, I was able to see the warning signs before it was too late. I sobered up and successfully continued to work in the industry for 1 year.
Shortly after that, I lost my father and my brother and experienced death, grief and more.
Then I moved to Vancouver and became and decided to start a podcast. I started interviewing people and their stories of adversity.
I dove into spirituality, mindfulness practices, personal growth and more.
I have been on so many journies and am open to sharing and talking about any one of them.
When you become a podcaster you learn a lot about a lot of people. Here are just a few of the 200 I've interviewed and learned from:
Vin Clancy is an award-winning public speaker specializing in growth hacking, internet marketing, and personal brand.
Miha Matlievski, aka the Fail Coach, went from successful 8-figure entrepreneur to bankruptcy. In just one phone call from the bank, Miha lost his $15 million net-worth and went $5 million in debt. With no way to declare personal bankruptcy, Miha had no choice but to pay back $5 million dollars.
Siloh Moses is a social entrepreneur and philanthropist. His mission is to put in the work so that: βNo one person should go hungry.β In an effort to combat hunger, Siloh started the Fork & Spoon pop-up restaurant concept. He also consults other entrepreneurs in social entrepreneurship through his agency WeWin360.
When my company failed, it was my fault. When my investor funded company failed, it was my fault.β After the great recession of 2008, Mike went into a spiral, drank too much, and became a hermit for a year. After hitting rock bottom, Mike reinvented himself by realizing he wanted something in a different life.
The first step to overcoming adversity for Mike came in realizing that he wanted to achieve true freedom with his time and finances. In todayβs episode, find out how Mike rebuilt his family from complete scratch.
Bryan Bushman is a licensed psychologist who specializes in helping people cope with physical and emotional pain. Dr. Bushman has been the author/co-author of articles published in peer-reviewed, scientific journals. He is also the author of Becoming Okay (When Youβre Not Okay).
In this episode, Dr. Bushman explains his approach of helping people to identify patterns in their life to then identify pain points of their suffering. His methods bring pain to light in order to begin the process of acceptance.
Dr. Bushman truly believes that by avoiding, dwelling, and clinging to the pain, we create our own suffering. We create more damage to ourselves than any other factor and working toward self-compassion is a big step in working through the pain.
